Event Recap Career Workshop: Personal Branding - Exploring External Opportunities Our recent career workshop with Chris Sotomayor offered valuable insights into personal branding and maintaining a strong 'opportunity flow' for career success. Key takeaways included enhancing visibility, building a strategic power base, optimizing LinkedIn profiles, and mastering interview techniques. Thank you to Chris and all participants for a fantastic session! Teeing Up Success: Highlights from the PMBA Golf Tournament In mid-June, Professional MBA students and alumni came together for a lively golf tournament, where enthusiastic participants showcased their skills and sportsmanship. The event concluded with an awards ceremony, followed by a pleasant dinner, providing a great opportunity for networking and camaraderie. The event was a delightful blend of competition and community building. Building Bridges: The EMBA Networking Event On July 3rd, the Indiana Kelley-SKK GSB EMBA Networking Event gathered over 50 alumni, students, professors, and incoming Class of 2026 students. The evening celebrated strong community connections with delicious food and wine. Attendees expressed their commitment to organizing more events, sparking enthusiasm for future networking opportunities and professional connections. PMBA Midyear Milestone Gala SKK GSB PMBA program students gathered for the Professional MBA Midyear Milestone Gala to celebrate a significant moment. PMBA students honored the graduation of the 14th cohort and marked the successful completion of the first semester of the 2024 academic year. Congratulations to all the graduates and cheers to new beginnings! Academic Life A new semester has begun at SKK GSB! SKK GSB Emeritus Professor Pil Hwa Yoo and Hermann Simon co-authored an article in the July Dong-A Business Review. Titled "South Korea-Germany Service Exports," it highlights the need for South Korea to enhance service exports amid growing global demand. Professor AleKsios Gotsopoulos' Latest Research and Insights Professor Aleksios Gotsopoulos published a paper titled "United We Stand? Organizational Groups and Spinoff Mortality in Academic Entrepreneurship," using iOS and Android ecosystems as examples. Professor Serim Hwang Discusses Influencer Marketing Professor Serim Hwang appeared on KBS to shed light on influencer marketing. As an expert in the field, she discussed the differences between virtual and human influencers, insights also featured in her Harvard Business Review paper. Discover her key takeaways from the KBS program here Professor Jung-Hoon Han Reveals The Hidden Truths of Corporate Scandal Professor Jung-Hoon Han's paper in the Strategic Management Journal examines media and public interest in corporate misconduct. He distinguishes between high-reputation firms, admired for performance, and celebrity firms, noted for emotional resonance. Misconduct by high-reputation firms faces rational scrutiny, while celebrity firms often avoid scandal due to emotional processing. These insights are vital for crisis management. Events Recap FMBA Alumni Reunion Day: A Night to Remember The evening was filled with laughter, networking, and cherished memories, making it unforgettable. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the reunion's success. Your presence underscored the strong bond within our FMBA community. We look forward to celebrating future events together, strengthening our network, and forging lasting connections. MBA Run Together To kick off SKK GSB's 20th anniversary celebrations, the "MBA Run Together" event was held at Seoul Olympic Park on May 12th. Around 40 students and alumni gathered to run a 6km course, enjoying both a pleasant networking opportunity and a fundraising event. It was a great start to commemorating two decades of excellence at SKK GSB! GSB Alumni Insights: Real Estate SKK GSB Alumni Association recently hosted the 4th GSB Alumni Insights: Real Estate event! Hyoung Min Kim (EMBA 2022) shared invaluable tips on becoming a building owner, covering essential pre-learning steps and strategic financial planning. The evening fostered learning and connection. Alumni Insights will take a summer break and return in the fall. Stay tuned for more events! Academic Life FMBA Students Embrace Sustainability on Taiwan Field Trip Our Full-Time MBA students recently returned from an exciting field trip to Taiwan, concluding their 2023-2024 academic year. They visited leading sustainability-focused companies, iconic landmarks in Taipei, and engaged with alumni. This journey of discovery and inspiration will shape their future endeavors as global leaders. PMBA "Meet Our Cohort Expert" Event On April 18th, our PMBA community held the first "Meet Our Cohort Expert" event with Chan Hong (Kevin) Jeong from SKKRYPTO. About 30 attendees learned about blockchain from 10:20 to 11:00 pm. Despite the late hour, the event successfully fostered networking and learning. This initiative aims to become a new tradition with similar future events planned. EMBA Immersion: A Week in Washington DC The EMBA program includes three immersion experiences. For their second immersion, the Class of 2025 went to Washington DC for a course on "Strategic Management of Global Corporate Public Affairs."Partnering with Indiana University, SKK GSB organized 14 sessions. Students learned from experts like former US trade representative Wendy Cutler, the Political Director at ABC News, and a senior advisor at Albright Stonebridge Group. Connecting Alumni Alumni Interview Series: Where Are You Now? To celebrate SKK GSB's 20th anniversary, we organized a series of "Where Are You Now?" interviews with alumni to find out how they are doing in their careers and what life has been like since graduation. Alumni Stories Sally Marshall (FMBA 2023) is now an HR manager at SK Telecom. The MBA program and Career Development Center were pivotal in her career transition. Read full interview here. Faculty Professor Youngju Nielsen signs a strategic business agreement with Maeil Business Newspaper SKK GSB Professor Youngju Nielsen’s fintech company, iLab, has signed an MOU with Maeil Business Newspaper to develop a 'Target Date Fund (TDF)' index. This collaboration will create TDF benchmark indices tailored to the Korean market, helping to distinguish the performance and profitability of financial institutions. Spotlight on Faculty Research Professor Suil Pae won the 54th Maekyung Economist Award Professor Pae published a paper titled "Career Concerns, Investment, and Management Forecasts" in the world-renowned academic journal "Accounting Review". According to Professor Pae's analysis, managers with general management skills tend to underinvest, while managers with specialized skills tend to overinvest. Read more [HERE].
