Hwiseok Ra is both an associate manager in the Transport Service Group at Incheon International Airport Corporation, and a student in SKK GSB’s AI MBA program. In his job, Hwiseok oversees a wide range of parking infrastructure initiatives, including the construction and enhancement of parking facilities, and the modernization of parking management.

He explained why he enrolled in the AI MBA at SKK GSB: "As professionals apply AI, many public institutions care about using it. Incheon International Airport Corporation has also explored how to apply AI across all aspects of work. As one of the managers of transport services, I've had a great interest in applying AI to my work. At the same time, the corporation gave me the opportunity to join the AI MBA at SKK GSB, so I grabbed the chance."

Hwiseok shared what he gained from SKK GSB's AI MBA. 

"Before I embarked on the AI MBA at SKK GSB, I thought of AI simply as a better search engine. However, after learning about AI, I realized how it works, and that it could be highly effective when applying job-related data and capital flows. As a result, I am exploring various ways to apply AI to our operational systems. At the moment, I am considering how AI can be integrated into data-driven tasks such as parking lot analytics, parking demand analysis, and monitoring parking violations."

In particular, one course that stood out for him was "AI and Machine Learning" by Prof. Youngju Nielsen. This course gave him confidence to apply AI to his work by learning real-world applications.

Hwiseok highlighted the importance of AI in airport operations.

"An airport is a large, complex organization where a wide range of operations are interconnected and work together seamlessly. Previously, airport operations were conducted by experts with years of experience, but in the future, airport operations will be driven by accurate analysis using AI.

Particularly, for transport service, we often have to respond to passenger-related issues after problems occur. During peak travel periods, we typically rely on historical data and past experience to determine whether additional parking capacity is needed, temporary parking lots should be opened, or other measures should be put in place. However, when AI is applied to this field, we will be able to make data-driven decisions based on factors that people cannot analyze individually such as parking lot status, or passenger flow. If we can use AI and machine learning-based predictive models in the near future, persistent problems related to the effective allocation of staff and responsibilities regarding airport parking operations will be resolved."

Hwiseok recommends the AI MBA at SKK GSB to anyone without an AI background: "Professionals are able to gain practical knowledge and develop a genuine understanding of AI, and make it their own so they can transform their careers."
