Is it an English language course? No, it actually is an economics class of the MBA course.
It is a part of a lecture ‘Managerial Economics’ of Professor Chengwei Wang who is a professor at SKK GSB, Sungkyunkwan University. Prof. Wang's class is well known for its use of films, literary works, and historical events as examples that easily introduce economic concepts. With the reason why Rose chose the poor Jack, is that students learn about the different types of corporate strategies when faced with a risk, such as the Rysk-loving, Risk-neutral and Risk-averse. Romeo and Juliet's tragedy is a prime example of Averse Selection due to information imbalances.
This class also shows economic approaches and analytical methods when an individual or business needs to make an economic decisions. Through this academic module, MBA students gets to learn about best price decisions in market competition, rational decision making methods in uncertain situations, information imbalances and moral hazards, a variety of business theories and strategic decision makings in the field of marketing and accounting.
“I will make a decision when I have myself fully engaged in family business management after graduation by utilizing Game Theory I learnt from Professor Chengwei.” Mr. Sukwoo Hong, a Full-Time MBA student commented as the above in his lecture evaluation. Another student at Full-Time MBA, Ms. Esme Fong also said, since Professor Wang's classes explain economic concepts through everyday examples, students with a variety of backgrounds were able to acquire a high level of essential economic knowledge.
Professor Chengwei Wang worked at Morgan Stanley after graduating from Qinghwa University and acquired Ph.D. from INSEAD. She has been teaching MBA courses at SKK GSB since 2016 and received Teaching Excellence Award at SKK GSB in 2017.
