[Day 2: Lecture in IE Business School, Segovia]
Entrepreneurship by Joseph Pistrui + Lunch at Restaurant ‘Jose Maria’ + Segovia guided tour
The Innovation and Modern Entrepreneurship class held in one of the rooms in an old monastery buildings, what an impressive experience! The future business environment where uncertainty and changes are new norms, requires different thinking styles and one of these new practices in the industry is so called Design Thinking, stemming from Stanford B. School collaboration with IDEO in the US. Design Thinking, stresses the importance of space and its set up for this exercise to make a more engaging environment. I really feel that a place like this class room is the very place where people can imagine more, stimulating creativity on addressing challenges, sometimes ending up with innovative solutions from these cycles.
As a professor and entrepreneur running his own business, Prof Pistrui described four types of thinking styles – engineer, scientist, designer and artist and introduced new types of thinking methods: -seeing, exploring and judging. For exploring, he come up with NextSensing exercise and I see great potential of this exercise coupled with design thinking methodology to enable people to think forward and to stretch our cognitive muscles more systematically.
Also based on attitudes toward uncertainty and possibility, there are four entrepreneurial styles – incremental, exponential, focused and playful. Everyone can develop each style to be enhanced or more expanded by challenging their mindsets and stretching their cognitive muscles. We should keep trying as the great quote states, the "cost of being wrong is less than the cost of being late(or doing nothing)".
Also lunch at a renowned restaurant “Jose Maria” and a guided tour of Segovia, famous for its magnificent Roman aqueduct and for its cathedral, one of the last Gothic temples to be built in Europe, were just amazing experiences.
